In the project Secret Surface Moabit, design students developed concepts for the development of the Smart Sustainable District Moabit West. The Berlin district is undergoing radical change, and at the request of the Berlin Senate sustainability is to play an important role in this development.
The project took place in cooperation with the Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR), the Center for Art and Urbanistics Berlin (ZK/U) and TU Berlin’s CHORA: Smart Citizens’ Science. The concepts were presented to the public at a conference.

You can see it in the pictures: an online survey in Moabit Facebook groups establishes a sound platform of knowledge on which to base a new mobility concept; the main axis Turmstrasse is examined at various levels (mobility behaviour, music, green spaces, movement patterns, solar radiation, smells, sounds, rubbish, and architecture); the students present their projects for dialogue with residents, future users, and interested parties; an exhibition of the projects in the context of the Gütermarkt forms an interactive basis for the exchange particularly with the neighbourhood. Another project addressing the issue of education in public spaces develops information posters about special architectural features along Turmstrasse.
